The SANAE IV (South African National Antarctic Expedition) research base in Antarctica was originally constructed in 1997, when an SSI group company provided the mechanical services. The Base was constructed on Vesleskarvet, a rocky outcrop about 300km inland in a highly hostile environment where summertime temperatures rarely exceed -10°C and winter sees the mercury plummet to a bone chilling -50°C!

In 2009 Lesotho’s Ministry of Public Works and Transport: Roads Directorate appointed SSI Engineers & Environmental Consultants to plan a footbridge to create a new and sustainable future for approximately 2000 people. This project became a reality recently when the completed bridge was officially “opened to traffic”. |
